If you follow the instructions in the second part of the page, you will see that you boot into single user mode. (Hold down Cmd+S as you reboot). This takes you to a "terminal" where you are root, so be careful shat you type. Follow the instructions from there, and it'll definately work (has for me)...
Actually Tim's suggestion seems workable http://www.themacobserver.com/tip/2003/06/16.1.shtml except that you have to open a terminal window after re-boot. How do you do that if you can't get past the log-in window?
Hi Tim, I tried the part from the windows tech on down. I did the following:
1. Boot into single user mode. 2. mount -uw / 3. Systemstarter 3. passwd user
Then it just went to the root prompt.
Then I tried it from the terminal app.
1. opened terminal 2. su 3. password 4. mount -uw / 5. Systemstarter 6. passwd user
Then I could change the password, but I had to be in super user for it to work and you have to have your old password to do it.
It seems like a catch 22.
