Because Steve Jobs originally wanted the Mac to have a one button
mouse and NO keyboard. Fortunatly, he was over rulled on the keyboard
but still is adamant about a one button mouse. Thus we have the
asinine situation where you have to use TWO hands to do something
that one could do with a a muti-button mouse. Control-Click is a good
example. I started using a Kesington TurboMouse with my Apple IIc,
and have continued doing so with my Macs
On a related note, why do all mac keyboards remain so spartan
compared to their PC counterparts? I understand it on the laptops,
as the keyboards on Compaq laptops are kind of clumsy with all of
the functions they've tried to put on to them. But what about a
full sized keyboard? Why not add some media functions to mac
keyboards?
Isn't that why the F1 through F15 keys are on the keyboard?
