The flyback transformer is part of the screen. It is responsible for
putting out the 20,000 volts the screen needs to light up. (To put that
in perspective, your household outlets are 120 volts). To replace it,
the part would be almost $100, doing it yourself is dangerous, and
requires soldering. A repair shop would probably charge about $300.
The iMac does not even start up with a broken flyback transformer - it
shuts off about 10 seconds after startup.
