Hmm, I knew the slot loaders suffered from this firmware issue, but do the tray loaders as well?

What exactly do tray loaders do if you do not have firmware 1.2 and install OS X? Pardon my ignorance - but I have never dealt with the tray loaders - only slot loaders.
