I know there are some issues with RAM in the older machines, so maybe
someone can help me out here.....My wife's parents have a Lime 333mhz
tray-loader, and when I went to upgrade the RAM so that I could also
upgrade them to OSX (from 8.6) I had a couple of issues. First, I had
two 256MB sticks that I had previously used in a iBook 600 and in a
Lombard 333. So after taking everything apart, I get no startup, just
a gray screen. Wouldn't even get to open firmware, wouldn't work with
shift down, nothing. Thinking it might be the RAM, I pulled the top
stick out and it started up - but only 128MB shows up. I went back in
and reseated the RAM chip, buttoned things up not so thoroughly and
started up again but still the same 128MB. Tried the other RAM chip
there, but the same result. Neither would work in the top slot, btw.
So I left it in and put an old 64MB chip into the top slot, which
gives them 192MB, a large improvement from the 32 they had. But
what's up with the RAM? They both work in a Lombard, which is
essentially the same board.....Now she's got another problem with
Netscape, so I'd really like to go with the OSX upgrade to make my
diagnostic life a little easier. I never ran 8.6 on anything, I went
from 8.0 to 9.1 and then X exclusively for the last two years.
