Hi Folks Hi Kari, John hi Basically John is right - but he went trough a bit too quick for my gusto
So Step by Step to be sure to having a cristalclean installation (excuse my fauts that I am having in my mails - i'm still writing from Switzerland - but here we have 1AM and I had a hard day, so be patient with me please) So my explanation for someone who is not a supergeek with computers Here is my safe way: First do not clean anyrthing - backup any file you want to keep - files and not programs) Connect to the web try to find the latest firmware update (iMac Trayloader need Version 1.2 - Sloatloader need 4.1.9) - Download it and then next read the ReadMe - it's very very easy with a Sloatloader like yours Then go to ATI.com and download the driver for your VRAM (Video Memory) -> not necesarly needed, but I said the SAFE WAY ;-) Then install it! If possible run Diskwarrior or AppleCare under OS9 - it's like a Lotion for the iMacs HD*lol Anyway... Then decide if you want to have Classic (basically OS9) or not installed on your computer! My opinion is that If you have any OS 9 Software that isn't yet available for OSX, then OK, but in any other case -> Use the Power of the X - It's the best piece of code ever written by humans - honestly OK, let's continue.... Install Panther (10.3.9) or Tiger (10.4.2) - decide by yourself - my opinion is that Panther is fully stable working and has enough "Toys" in it that you can easily play around the next half year or so - then when Tiger grows up to a pride member of his pride ;-) then yes, go to the next Level without having panic of any kernel panic or whatsoever... And yes, every single feature of OS9 (airport and so on) is also on OS X and even more (use the Help Menu- it really helps - if not then use the www) And You Keri have to buy CD's, not DVD's - if your iMac is the one I think. OK, having the OS of your choice in your iMay connect to th web again and update all the software that apple has ready for you - but do not install everything that you do not need, e.g. Why downloading iPod updates or something if you never had one in your hands, ok So think about it! Anyway... Like John said... First of all buy some RAM - if your iMac is the one I think (called internal "KIVA") then you can go up to 1 GB - means 2 x 512MB (called PC100 3.3V 168-pin SDRAM) - the best spent money on the iMac - but 512MB is more then enough for the average user To stick them in - try to find a description on the web - there is plenty of it - easy work! (just open that little door in the back of the imac and you will see the two RAM ports...) Go ahead with confidence - it's the easiest you ever done and/or will do on a your computer from now on Then ... Hey I guess we are finished but the fact it's morning here could be that I forgot a step or two But hey that's why we are here, to share each others knowledges and experiences So time to go nananana Asta la vista Dean am 14.09.2005 23:48 Uhr schrieb John Slavin unter [EMAIL PROTECTED]: > It should handle OSX just fine.
