I've got 10.2 installed on a 233 Bondi iMac. It used to run fine, but the drive got corrupted and I had to totally reinstall the OS. Because my CD rom drive on that machine has died since I originally installed, I pulled the hard drive and put it in a firewire case and did the install via another iMac.
So far so good. Install is fine, iMac boots off the drive via firewire. So I put the drive back into the Bondi, I boot, all is well. Two days later, I get the spinning wheel that won't stop. I have no choice but to hit the reset button as nothing else works. Bondi starts to boot, then gives me the Prohibited sign (something I had never seen before). I look up some info, that sign appears to mean the install is corrupt. So I pull the drive, put it back into the firewire case, and the firewire iMac boots fine off the drive. I run Disk Utility, drive tests fine, I check permissions, all is fine. I run Disk Warrior, drive tests as fine. I reboot several times, all is well. So I put the drive back into the Bondi, boot, same Prohibited sign. So I boot into Verbose mode. I get as far as ADB present:0 (which makes sense, as there is no ADB on the Bondi). Then it pauses for a while, then says "Still waiting for root device". It just keeps repeating that line about every 30 seconds. Anyone have a clue what is going on? Any idea how to get around it? I've zapped the PRAM, I've reset the NVRAM, I've even pressed the CUDA button. The PRAM battery tests as 3.1 volts, so it should still be good (I've seen them working all the way down to 1 volt). The drive is an Apple OEM Quantum 6 GB drive, so there should be no issues with the drive not being usable with the Bondi, and it did work with it for two days after doing the install. Clues, tips, tricks or otherwise to get this going would be great. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
