Charles, here is what I get using hotmail for free plus an extra
$20/year
and i never change my E-mail address either:
As I said in the beginning of my post, if all you want is email,
there are lots of good offerings out there. Given Hotmail's long
history of easy hacking/stealing passwords and being a SOURCE of
spamming/friendly to spammers (as in "selling your info"), I don't
think I'd classify them as one of the "good" offerings, but there are
plenty out there.
But if it's working for you, great! It sure as shootin' doesn't even
BEGIN to compare to the stuff I listed that's included in .Mac,
but .Mac is a FAR more full-featured service than just email, so it's
kind of like comparing a Yugo to a Porshe. Both are cars, but one is
considerably more than "just a car."
The MSN Hotmail Plus yearly subscription of $19.95 plus tax includes 2
Gigabytes of total MSN Hotmail account space
Same as .Mac.

no graphical ads,
Just LOTS of TEXT ads. Whereas .Mac has **NO** ads. Maybe most people
don't consider that important, but since you're PAYING them you'd
think they'd stop with the ads. Nope. Further, those "ads" are
attached to your outgoing mail, so they're not seen by you -- and may
very well promote items/services that you wouldn't personally approve
of.
access to the MSN Hotmail mailbox via
Microsoft Office Outlook or Outlook Express,
.Mac is accessible through any email program (except AOL's of course).
Refund only available if
cancelled within one month from purchase and automatically renews
yearly
unless cancelled.
.Mac does NOT require automatic renewal, which I *really* appreciate.
I wouldn't give MS my credit card number if my life depended on it.
Again, I'm not saying ".Mac rocks, Hotmail sux" per se. I'm just
pointing out that for a bit more money ($80/year or less if you shop
around), you get a BOATLOAD more stuff, mostly in other areas. If
none of the many additional services .Mac offers are of any interest
to you, and you're on a tight budget, maybe .Mac isn't for you.

Claiming that the Macintosh is inferior to Windows because most
