The saga continues ...

Well, I did that. That was when I realized I'd mistaken the SGRAM for SRAM.

Pried off the CPU cage cover and eyeballed the top SODIMM. It turns out to be
512Mb! Strange, I'm thinking ...

Put the whole thing back together, tried to boot it.

Nuttin'. Amber light, chime, but no raster or other sign of life. Hmm, worse
than before, when at least it would boot once after a rest ...

*sigh*

Opened it up again. This time I popped out the CPU daughterboard and examined
the underside. Sure enough, a 32Mb SODIMM. And 512 on top.

Reassembled again. Turned it over, plugged it in, turned it on ...

Boots! No "memory problem" message. But tells me it's only seeing 32Mb now ...
where it was seeing 160 before ...

After fooling around a bit, I clicked Restart on the Menu, and amazingly, it
restarted.

Then I had to shut it down cause I needed the kitchen table for supper ...

So ... it looks like maybe the "memory problem" was the cause of the boot
problem? And presumably the problem part of it was the fact that the SODIMM was
twice as large as the slot could handle? (But why, then, did it only see 1/4 of
the stick?)

And ... mind you, I did reinsert the 512 stick -- after giving the edge
connectors a little rubdown with a bit of newspaper as they looked a little
dull. Seemed to be seated just fine. But now it's not being detected at all!?!
Am puzzled.

Well ... with any luck I'll find some 128 or 256 SODIMMs somewhere (preferably
for free, as I have a negative budget and can't even afford $20 on eBay these
days).

Any ideas what is with all that?
