There's also some beeping going on, I can't quite explain
that, but it seems connected to the CD derive, or coming from it.
That is probably the CD drive making noises as it reads the disk, they
are normal to some extent, as long as you don't hear any scraping or
grinding.
Even more baffling is the fact that it showed the same behaviour when I
tried to boot it from an OS 9.2.2 clone that I have used to starup
several
Macs with (all portables, in all truth).
Once again, the iMac may not like CDs from another computer, especially
newer ones.
I also tried more recent CDs from a
flat screen iMac and an iBook G4, but these are auto-ejected without
even
being mounted.
Those disks are most likely DVDs; the iMac has a CD-only drive.
So far, I have managed to boot only from its original OS 9
CD, so the CD drive works to some extent. Any suggestion as to what's
going
on and how to get around this?
Seems like your CD drive is functioning correctly. My advice is to use
a RETAIL version of Mac OS, if you are not already.
