It is a copy of the retail version set. CD one of the original set was
damaged at some point, good I had backed it up prior to this. I have used
this copy on a wide range of powerbooks with no problem. I can only assume
the iMac does not like copies??? Odd.

this is actually a bootable clone of clean install of OS 9.2.2, not an
install disc. I use this CD to startup macs (mostly G3 powerbooks and
iBooks) in emergency cases and it has never let me down.

they are actually CDs, yet they do not mount and are spit out. I had firstly
thought about a possible master/slave issue on the CD drive, but as the
original OS9 disc boots fine, it can't be the case.

I was hoping that the fact that both the 9.2.2 disc and the OS X installer
appear in the startup disc cp and at opt-startup, but is only grayed, could
be known symptom with a possible work-around. But, as you said, it might
just be that I'm out of luck and the iMac doe not like these discs :(

thanks for the help anyway.

cheers,
gianfranco
