Just bought a clearance May 2005 17" iMac -- on sale in mid November
when the iSight models came out. At $1199 (Canadian) it was too big a
savings to pass up. After all, the new models were only 100mhz
faster, and I have no use for an iSight.
So far, I am very pleased. The 17" LCD is sharper than the one on my
new IBM LCD monitor at work, and WAY better than my ThinkPad (or any
other laptop for that matter.) The image is also very adjustable,
with a wide range in which you can find a good looking image that
suits your work.
The iMac is also nearly silent. It replaced an aging iMac DV 400 (a
model with no fans), and the new iMac is quiter than the old one
(because of the noise of the hard drive in the old iMac.)
I don't know what you need to do with the iMac -- if you need it
SILENT, go for the Mac Mini. Otherwise, the May 2005 iMac is a G5
powerhouse in very unassuming guise.
