Umm...real, and there's been an identified spike in in skin cancer  
cases in the Southern Hemisphere because of it, (because the major  
problem occurs over the South Pole) and measurable alterations of  
plant and animal life in the antarctic ocean because of the increased  
UV flux.

It's slowly getting better precisely BECAUSE we did something about  
it, by phasing out clorofluorocarbon propellants and refrigerants.
