I've been running a PowerMac MDD for almost 7 yrs now, and feel it is time to move up to something a little newer. I can't afford an iMac right out of the store so can anyone recommend a used model? I do some graphic design (photoshop, inDesign) and want to try transferring some vhs tapes to dvd. I'm not very familiar with these and have always had towers that I could customize.
Compatibility with your Adobe apps is of course very important, not knowing what versions you are using it's hard to evaluate all possibilities. If you are currently using them on your MDD maybe a G5 Power Mac would fit the bill? Though they are not the latest & greatest they are capable machines, customizable, easy to work on, and reasonably priced. I use a 2.0 GHz G5 DP and my only complaint is Flash performance on hulu.com is still awful; the DC models are a little faster still than my DP.
I would recommend staying away from the liquid cooled 2.7 GHz DP and 2.5 GHz DC DP (quad). If a leak develops and destroys delicate electronics it's not going to be covered by warranty.
