It depends on your video card if it can support it or not. My Power Mac G4 sawtooth's original video card, an ATI Rage 128 Pro had both a DVI and VGA connector, yet it didn't allot extended desktop. I had to put in an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB before such a thing could be possible. I understand you said that Extended desktop usually works with all Power Mac G3-G5 desktop towers, but it all depends on the video card.
