I  would  strongly  recommend setting up an internal DNS server rather
than  using and managing HOSTS files. Using internal DNS also makes it
much easier to set up roaming users, whose IP may change from internal
to   external--their  mail  server  settings  will  go  with  them  as
appropriate  for  dial-up  access,  which  would  not be the case with
HOSTS.
