I think everyone is trying to help you with something that you do need
to fix, eventually. Right now though you need to be able to send mail OUT.
It really is important that you see if you can get the correct info on the
mail servers you are trying to reach. Someone has already suggested this,
but I am going to re-re-re suggest that you use nslookup to test your
ability to resolve names of hosts you are sending to...
[instructions to use nslookup to test]
go to a dos box (on NT)
type "nslookup" (without quotes)
[right away you should get a report of what DNS server you are using]
type "set type=mx" (without quotes)
type "aol.com" (without quotes)
[copy output and mail to me or list]
who is your upstream ISP?
what DNS servers do you have specified in IMAIL? (you would find this in
the "IMAIL server" applet from the Windows NT Control Panel... It will be on
the "SMTP" tab. There can be more than one IP there separated by a space)
Your DNS entries for Tigerlink need some work too, but this should be first,
get your mail flowing out again, then get the inbound flowing right... That
is what your customers are complaining about so let's get that done first.
***** Also on the "SMTP" tab there are two places where you can set the
number of tries to send mail, and the time between tries, set these much
higher right away (temporary) so that mail does not continue to go back to
your users, this will buy you some time.
