Imap and LDAP are databases.

When CF stores the same (and more) user accnt info, you use the ODBC database, not the IMAP or LDAP as database.

How would you do that?

Well, you wouldn't have to use IMAP for that. Cold Fusion could do it all internal with the use of the database.

I haven't seen the cfx_Imail either but there is an cfx_mail there:
http://www.coldfusion.com/developer/gallery/index.cfm?ObjectID=7440&nocache=yes

It can do the basic stuff like reading mail, deleting, collecting headers, attachments, mailbox size.
The one thing missing is to move messages between folders, creating folders, deleting folders.
I dont know very much about mail (programming) but I guess that one would
have to have an IMAP component to do all the things Imail can do ?

There isn't one; they're just dreaming about it.
