All of AOL's traffic runs through a cluster of proxy servers. Some types of 
traffic are affected more transparently than others. (hence the old "Ignore 
source ip", the server sees a different IP than it thinks it should) You 
might want to have one of them telnet to port 8383 and (if they feel 
daring) try to simulate a post to see what's happening. However, if they 
are getting the logon screen, odds are they're getting through. And, if 
they are getting a logon failed, I'd say there's a good chance it's getting 
back as well. One other thing to try, if you move the mail server to port 
80, does it let them in? This may tell us that AOL is letting 80 do things 
that other ports aren't allowed to do.
