My server #2 is my mail server. My server #3 is my www server. I now want
to run some .asp scripts that will send an email. Reading the manuals, I
understand it to mean that I have to enable SMTP on my www server.
apparently the MS smtp server isn't too strong. you can get a good free one with plenty of example asp scripts from www.dimac.net, free downloads, w3 Jmail.
Questions are, does this sound right and secondly, will this screw up my
mail server?
no, you asp scripts will use jmail at the MTA to deliver mail to other smtp servers. Your Imail server could be or could not be a recipient of mail from your www/jmail machine.
If you want to spend money, other MTA are available at www.serverobjects.com, which has a bunch of stuff you might find useful.
