imail server.
Jmail is an MTA mail-transfer-agent using the smtp protocol to forward mail to other MTA's. Since you will not be using Jmail for receiving incoming mail, the Internet, ie, DNS, does not have to know about Jmail-as-MTA. The Jmail machine will have an A record, plus maybe CNAME record for www. alias, and/or ftp. alias, but not an MX record.
2. My mx server will still function for pop3 etc?
Sure, your POP3 users still point their POP3 clients for incoming mail to yr POP3 serer, ie, the mail.domain.com with Imail.
On a different approach, if I were to use NT's and enable SMTP on the www
server, how would it affect the mx server?
It wouldn't, no more than Jmail in the same forward-mail-only role. DNS doesn't "discover" smtp MTA's, it has to be told where they are, their names, and ip addresses.

only if you were going to directn incoming, received mail to that machine, NOT if you are going to use the Jmail or whatever MTA just for sending mail, which I think is yr objective.
and further looking I got a msg saying the server wasnt set up properly, and
then it directed me to M$ FP/serk page.
????? I don't about that.
