I prefer to use the external database. That way I can integrate it into
other membership only areas of my web site. Seems to work perfect so far
and it's MUCH easier to manipulate with add-on software or home-grown
software.

The only real disadvantage in my case was that I do not want
to mess with setting up user rights, etc for the users in User Manager.
NT starts getting a little sluggish itself as user count increases across
a domain. Just my 3.8 cents worth.
