Our mail server went down yesterday and there is a good chance we will need to re-install the operating system.

Is the drive/drives that the system OS was installed on toast?  If the system is not bootable but the drives are functioning, you might try Winternals ERD Commander.  It boots off CD and, if it can read your drives, can load the registry off an otherwise non-working system.  The emergency recovery option is only $299 but doesn't contain the "Disk Commander" software that allows you to scan drives with damaged or missing MBR's or for deleted files.

The full recovery option is the Sytem Admin Pak.

Be prepared for stickershock though.  A free trial is available.

This will boot your system and install drivers for the network, attach to your registry, and allow you to recover the keys for Imail, saving them to another server.

It might save you tons of work.  It has for me, many times.
