You of course want a sine wave generator... some are still square wave and
will cause heat problems with your servers.
The fuel is more of a concern than most realize. Gasoline is bad. It has a
short shelf life. Unless you plan on using the generator often, or accept
draining and changing out the fuel every other month, then please count out
gasoline.
Diesel has a longer shelf life and there are good small diesel generators
available, but they're normally the loudest of the bunch.
Propane is the fuel of choice for these small units. Propane has an
indefinite shelf life, and propane fueled engines are the quietest of the
bunch.
I use an older Honda propane powered generator. Very quite and little
maintenance. I have no idea if Honda still makes generators or not, and
can't suggest any particular brand or model.
