Thanks, Len.

I'm a bit confused though.

First, how did you do this???????????????????????

no secrets, see my dig command.

2nd, the mx record is for fusemail, that is where their mail is currently being hosted. Do I not need an A record for this in my ibrandsinc.com zone

You can't put an A record in your zone for some another zone.

The DNS software will refuse to load it, saying "out-of-zone data" (unless you are delegating a zone and put in the A record/glue for the child NS)

, or does the zone for fusemail.net take care of their A record?

that's the very definition of how DNS works. Each DNS delegated with authority for zone maintains, exclusively, its own zone database, which all other NS refer/defer to.

I can't figure out where the A record for mx.fusemail.net is coming from

it comes from the NS authoritative for mx.fusemail.net (or it comes from another DNS where it is cached)

dig @NS.fusemail.net. mx.fusemail.net. a +sh
208.70.128.213

, since I can't enter it into the ibrandsinc.com zone.

no
