Thanks a bunch for confirming this. It might not appear on this list
like there is a lot of concern, but everyone that I talk with about the
latest versions is very concerned and impacted, and it helps to let
people know that such things are being planned. The likely reason for
the relative quiteness on the list is because of the 1 1/2 years of
constant show-stopping problems for larger hosts that rely on webmail
(primarily involving the lack of Safari support, followed by instability).
It seems that all through the 9.x releases, there have been a lot of
changes with each release, and even though each release fixes issues in
prior releases, new functionality or new methods are introducing new
fixes. It would be VERY beneficial to us and therefore the product, to
focus efforts on fixing bugs before introducing new functionality. The
pace of the releases has also been extremely slow, and if this was due
to caution, it didn't not produce the desired effects.
I think that the coming 10.x lightweight webmail interface will likely
solve many issues if you approach it correctly. It seems that a lot of
products have gone the AJAX route recently only to then suffer from
non-stop browser compatibility issues, and I honestly can't say that all
of the fancy code has benefited these products. The core of IMail is
quite stable, and it seems to be a shame to be spending so much time
with the webmail.

There have been a few reports of issues with the web client under high
load situations and we have been working hard tying to isolate and fix
these problems. It has been very difficult to duplicate, but we feel
that we have made progress. There will be a 2006.22 (9.22) release
soon that should address the problem.

Tripp,
For those of us (most of us) that purchased a software
subscription for IMail 9.x and are still waiting for a stable
webmail interface, is there going to be any sort of attempt made
to fix the current issues without another major version upgrade?
I am afraid that I paid for a service agreement about a year and a
half ago and a product that is stable has not yet been made
available, and I get the impression that I am going to be told to
upgrade to version 10 and pay for another service agreement.
Thanks,
Matt

We are also working on a low bandwidth template set for IMail
10. Be on the look out for a Technical Preview (beta) before the
end of the year.
