One other thing... I am an old WebsitePro user and we still use a
product for most of our sites to send email. It is extremely efficient
as it is an ASAPI.DLL called PolyForm. Last year we used it to run
a startup internet auction which is the largest Michael Jordan auction
on the web. (www.air23.com) and we did roughly $1.2 million in sales
online using a simple 24k ASAPI dll. <g> It is very versatile and takes
almost no resources at all as polyform.dll for IIS. I would say it is
roughly 50 times faster than ASP and much less error prone.
It is only $149 at http://software.oreilly.com/download/
One of the additional things we like about this is that it adds to the
primary message the IP of the user it was from and a unique
transaction ID which can be sent to user for tracing. This way we had
full traceability to our auction as well as speed. Our IIS server was
probably sitting at a maximum of 20% processor with several hundred
using this CGI near auction closes. Now that auction runs in Perl
using Active State's PerlIS.dll with similar performance.
