Matt,
In my troubleshooting of IMail, WSFTP and network connections, to me any
connection over a 'phone' line (yes dsl and all the rest) seem to be ones
most likely affected by MTU problem. The basic symptom is that one or more
transmissions of data, take much longer than they should to complete. The
other major symptom is that small files seem to work OK, but as size gets
greater, things seem OK up to a point, then get worse _real_ fast.
If you can isolate the route that is having the problem, that can tell you
the more likely places. I'd also suspect the users computer and the DSL
stuff (router?). Basically if MTU is much above 576 (think that is the
number, check KB for MTU), one can encounter these seemingly 'strange'
transfer problems.
Using FTP for small and then large files, can also be a way of checking
these connections as Len mentioned.
