Andy,
Sure, I've used 'kill' before (but did not know about the /f, thanks!), but
in Steves case, that too, did not work. That was/is one of the 'strange'
things about his situation. He did find another way to do this! Its not much
and I do not know exactly what it means (not that familiar with W2K, yet)
bit I'll share it: 'Steven discovered clicking End Process Tree ends the
process and anything associated with it'.
In reality, I probably should have said, 'set the Service to Manual, then
restart the machine'. This would have made sure the service did not start up
after the restart.
