My question to you Len is how DO you get to the SQL box for admin
work if it is on a private network with access from the
Imail/IIS box.
One way I can think of is PCAnywhere to the IIS box and then
PCAnywhere again from the IIS box to the SQL box, will that
work?
Is there a way to connect to the SQL box using Enterprise Manager?
Doesn't Win2k Adv Server have some sort of terminal service that
helps with this sort of thing?
And Terry,
What would you limit SQL7's memory to if run on the same box
as Imail if you were running on a 512Mb RAM PIII 733Mhz box?
If the external database option cannot handle SMTP auth
then does that mean you have to have the relay option
open to everyone?
If so how do you stop spam users when using an external database option?
If you use the Imail db option, can the Imail db be on the SQL box (more
storage space)
and the Imail app on the IIS box?

it as a "back end" on the private network with access only by the
Imail/IIS box? It's best to have as few boxes on public ip's as
possible. The question is then how YOU get to the SQL box for admin work.

I personally would try to run Sql7 by itself for sure.
Both Sql7 and Imail can become memory starved.
If you do run Imail with Sql7 be sure to limit Sql7's memory so that Imail
has plenty of physical memory available when it needs it.
I use the Sql7 external database with Imail with no problems. The only
exception is that external database cannot handle smtp auth.
