I try to keep about 90Mb physical free fot IMAIL on NT4 but I think the more
the better and it probably depends on how busy your mail server is. Win2k
seems to be much better able to manage its memory - doesn't seem to matter
as much. We just bought another Sql7 machine and we went up to a full GB
with dual processors.

Best is to use the IMAIL database for those users who have to have SMTP
auth. Otherwise relaying for local users is about the best I see you can
do.

Not sure but I think the Imail db has to be on the server on which IMAIL is
actually installed. But the database part doesn't take much room. What
does take room is the domain user directories and spool directory and you
can certainly split them up.
One other thing about Sql7 server is that it needs LOTS of disk space for
its backups. If you get below a GB free you can see a 50% increase in time
to do backups.
