They said something slightly different, or they weren't clear enough.

There's a "To:" header in the E-mail, and there's a "RCPT TO:" in the SMTP envelope, 
and both are different.

If there was no "RCPT TO:" in the SMTP envelope, then something was seriously wrong 
with IMail (it was trying to send a message to nobody, but in order to connect to AOL, 
it had to be trying to send to somebody).  So I'm guessing they meant nobody in the 
"To:" header.  However, that is allowed per RFC822.  For example, you could have just 
two CC:'s and no To: or Bcc:.  But, I'll have to admit, not having a "To:" address 
isn't very logical.
