Is there anything special about the mailbox contents. I have noticed that
fetches are slow if a mail message has a number of other mail messages
embedded as attachments (a common practise amongst Outlook users) and if the
embedded message have attachments you might as well make yourself a cup of
tea whilst waiting. I do not have specifics but have had a few mailboxes
which have suffered from the problem, one with 7 attached outlook messages
took ~3 minutes to fetch the bodystructure and pegged one of the processors
whilst doing it. (Identified this problem by telnetting into the IMAP
service and running the FETCH command on the message in question).
If it is this problem it would explain why you have problems after it
cancels because though the client has timed out Imail seems to carry on
processing the message until it has worked out the mime structure for the
message, then cancels, durring which the mailbox file is busy.
