Greetings: I run both Imail for our students accounts and Echange 5.5 for the admin/faculty/staff use.  Imail is very easy to use vs. Exchange is a very large and powerful piece of software.  If you want to just send email keep it simple.  If you need calendaring, calendaring sharing, public folders, and gobs of other features.  We use the calendaring extensively for faculty,staff & admin.  Works very good but I also treat Exchange with a healthy dose of respect -- you can screw it up very easily.  Very complex piece of software.  In comparsion Imail has been a treat, easy to install, no fancy databases, MTAs and other that other complex wizardy.  I have 500 students on it and it works very well for us.   As far as security I am not a expert, but you can encrtpt in Exchange easy enough not sure with Imail.
