Actually, you are correct that "Relay for Local Hosts" is not a perfect solution -- 
but you are left out another big reason for it not being a perfect solution.  It means 
that you are allowing spammers to relay through your server.  You are just making them 
use a return address on your domain, which means more work for you when they start 
spamming.

Hopefully, it has.  We strongly recommend people use "Relay for Addresses" and SMTP 
AUTH, if possible.  But, if you still have problems with SMTP AUTH with the latest 
version, another option is our "Declude Hijack" program that is now in beta.  It lets 
you run an open relay (meaning no SMTP AUTH required for end users or lists of IP 
addresses) while still preventing spammers from sending out all their junk through 
your server.
