>I'm just going to reinstall the entire imail server today.
MS has your knee jerking to their coroporate policy. :)))

its a rule, follow it.

mail servers take the FQHN in @recipientdomain and try to find out which ip
to send its mail to.
When the mail arrives at that ip, the receiving mail server looks at the
SMTP envelope @recipientdomain to decide whether to accep the msg or not.
>Does it just have to be in the format: domain.com
that will do

registered with whom? in DNS, only NS hostnames have to registered.
In Imail, there is no such thing as "registered" hostname, only the FQHN
for mail hosts and their mail host aliases.
>Do recving email servers do a reverse lookup on the sever name to filter

some do, most dont.
Dont worry about that now. When your ready, read

your myvasp.com DNS situ is pretty sucky. bad delegation, and NSs not
responding. syntax errors in the SOA record, only one NS in myvasp.com zone.
cbs4u.com is worse.
>Our network security policy requires the mail server to be behind a

not if your firewall dudes know their job.
>or is it just that the firewall has to support ESMTP?
that would help

no, port 25 is fine.
Id say you have firewall pbs, and DNS pbs to clear up.
Comparatively, Imail is easy.
