We just went through one of these (was it yours?) where the EHLO wasn't 
understood, because Outlook wasn't talking to IMail, but was really talking 
to a firewall or other mail server.  If you see a bunch of *****'s in a 
line prior to the ones above, you're dealing with a firewall mucking with 
the SMTP transaction.
