That is quite odd.  A 50% packet loss is bad, but that could just be the 
routers dropping the packets intentionally (they drop the tracert/ping ICMP 
packets before standard standard traffic).  I'm stumped -- I can't think of 
any reason why it would be so slow when IMail connects, but not be when you 
connect via telnet.
