Susan,
I don't really know but would like to. According to the KB article that Mike
posted, your scanning program ends up calling SMTP32.EXE which is for
outgoing mail. No mention is made of the SMTPD service taking care of
incoming mail.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong here.
