Has anyone had problem with using the search feature in the web
interface where it brings up the correct results but when you click on
the email subject it displays a totally different message? I've
reported this to Imail but have not heard back....

IMail may be an ISP's delight it is heaven for a school with over a 1000
students and teachers. ;-) And indeed, all we want is a stable mail
server that provides amil in alle the flavours. The fact that out of the
box it comes with:
- SMTP with good spam protection by using SMTP AUTH
- POP3 (of course)
- IMAP4 (in 7.04 bugless as far as I can see)
- Webbased interface (verry important for us)
is a big pro for a program like this. I'm definitely promoting it to
other schools who want just a no hassle mail solution for ALL of their
students. Of course Microsoft gives BIIIIG discounts to scholls on all
their software overhere but running mail for a 1000 students on Exchange
of on IMail ..... I know what want to use.

p.s. The fact that Declude is arround and so easy to use was the
punchline. The IMail server did not come available to the outside world
until Declude was installed, that was about 10 minutes after I received
the key. ;-)

We created a link that will automatically log them in on the IMail web

Yes they did - but only after we infected half our site!!
the build to fix the sircam bug is 2.5.1.6 but this does not fix the
Aliz virus.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Mails not being recd
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
hi,

yesterday i helped two ppl sort out their problems with mail receipt.
today i am in the same soup.

the problem is as follows:

i have multiple domains on mail server but only one IP. so domains are
virtual. i do not run my own DNS server but utilise the services of
zoneedit for the same. its a wonderful service. from there i forward all
requests to my IP. till date everything was working fine. 2day all of a
sudden i stopped receiving mails on all domains on the server.
fortunately i had set a backup mail server for my main domain
(tradebooster.com). however, now all mails sent using the SMTP of the
Imail Server arrive correctly at mailboxes. however all mails from other
domains r being redirected to the backupmail server. however the most
surprising thing is that mails on other domains r neither being recd nor
r bouncing back. they r getting lost somewhere. cud somebody pls. help
out why this problem and whats gone wrong.

thanks
Samrat Yadav

afaics, it is still an attachment, whatever.exe, which we block at
IMGate
without needing an AV scanner, and we also catch it in IMGateAV with
Kaspersky AV scanner, but that never sees the .exe's at all.

I think that because the virus uses it's own SMTP program the NAV
software does not detect that it is an attachment. I have come to this
conclusion because i have my NAV set to delete all exe atachments but it
still got through. the only reason i trapped it was that i had left in
place the Imail filters from when NAV let me down over the sircam virus.

What is the line i need to add into the body checker file for filtering
out exe via IMgate

Les.

I'm not sure the reason for the Aliz virus, but that's exactly what
happened with NAVIEG and the Sircam virus. Its headers were "broken"
(after the virus attachment, it was missing the "end of MIME segments"
line). That's why it is especially important for an AV program not to
use
an off-the-shelf MIME decoder. An off-the-shelf component may be OK for

some applications that do not need to be able to see an attachment from
an
E-mail that isn't formatted properly, but an AV program definitely needs
to
be able to see the attachment, even if there are problems with the
formatting or whatever. If a single E-mail client can read the
attachment,
the virus scanner should too.

I have looked through the archives and it appears to be a pain in the

What is the best way to have customized web pages for Imail, preferably

No you can not remove it in add/remove programs. There is a rollback
utility with windows 2000 that worked fine. The component checker keeps
saying I have the wrong version for the mdac I am using now, but at
least imail is working again.

Just FYI.

I had to call Microsoft on a similar matter the other day and they told
me
to go no higher than MDAC 2.6 SP1 as of yet as there are some known
issues
with MDAC 2.7. Seems Microsoft thinks that 2.6SP1 is the most current
stable model.

Watch out for the security permissions on your DSN configurations on the
registry using regedt32.exe, set full control permissions for the system
on each DSN, I had that problem, and in a notremebered Technet issue i
found that solution.

Symantec do NOT currently have a fix for the new Aliz Virus. They said
the are currently working on it but as it is thanks giving in the States
it won't be ready until some time tomorrow.

w32.aliz.worm was discovered on the 22.05.01 and there is a fix already.

Iwould look into doing it through VB, or if you know how do it through
ASP. Exchange is all com objects, and the Imail database inserts
everything into the registr, so in theory all you would have to do is
query the registry then insert the user accounts into exchange. I am
sure you could figure out a way to get the email into exchange.

FYI, there have been a number of cases where viruses were discovered by
an
AV company (such as Norton/Symantec or McAfee), and the desktop virus
scanner would catch it, but the mail server virus scanner would not for
some reason (such as unusual or corrupt MIME headers or encoding).

However, I can't imagine that it would take over 5 months to fix the
problem (typically it takes them several days to a week).
