1st the obvious make sure the service is running, also make sure MS SMTP service isn't running. Then check the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SMTPD32\Parameters Look for a value called Port. If there isn't one then you ok. if there is make sure that it is set to a decimal value of 25
