<My $0.02> - Any server - mail, web, or otherwise - that's connected to the public Internet should be able to withstand it's share of malformed traffic without throwing up all over itself. They weren't throwing buffer overflows at their server trying to get admin access, they were just trying some not so normal email address combos trying to see if it would relay mail. THEY PROBABLY WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN TESTED unless they had seen some suspected spam(?) Lotus/IBM has had a patch available for several months (according to the articles I've read today), but Battle Creek's admins chose not to install it. Shame on Battle Creek. Is Battle Creek going to reimburse those of us who now are letting more spam thru without the thankless services of ORBZ? - Did anyone here if they were an open relay or not? :-) I know they weren't for at least 24 hours. - How could it be down for 24 hours??? I'll admit, I do not know the Domino platform, but kill the services, move the queue for later exam, and go about life back up and running. - The Internet is not a safe, fuzzy, warm place to put a server. But if you gotta do it, you take on the responsibility of choosing stable software, securing it properly, and keeping up to date on patches/hotfixes/etc. It's a shared network, everyone's gotta take on some of the responsibility themselves. - As more legal battles enrage over this type of thing (MAPS has been sued several times, read their website, that's why they are a pay service now), our end users will be the real losers. They will either have to deal with spam stuffed mailboxes, or higher prices as our costs for spam filtering tactics will continue to rise covering litigation costs. - If someone has the latest ORBZ zones (and the code to manage proper adds/deletes) we should ALL mirror it. </My $0.02>
