Ah -- the main.~bx file would be a temporary file that IMail creates, while 
changing the main.mbx file somehow. If Norton quarantines that file, then 
IMail will likely just keep the old main.mbx file.  That's good, as it 
makes sure that main.mbx file doesn't get lost.

Have you checked the quarantined .~bx files to see if they have a 
suspicious file of some sort in them?

That I can't explain.  Web messaging must be doing something (reindexing of 
some sort, fore example) that POP3/IMAP isn't doing.
