Bob,

Absolutely right. What's even worse is trying to do i/o with files over a
network. The av program will consume mass amounts of resources scanning
every file. For my own personal setup I only leave on my email/internet av
on my local desktop. I have my av software updating its' signature files
and performing a full system scan nightly. Every type of AV Software will
have its own inherent 'resource hogs' some less than others.

Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] Slow Web Messaging Possible Fix

Hmmm....We've got a beta tester that was experiencing really slow web
messaging also (2500 to 12000 users depending on semester). He was running
Norton Corporate on the desktop with scanning for the IMail directories
turned off. Soon as he turned off the desktop scanner...zoom. Everything
hauled butt. Thought it was a fluke. Reading this makes me think that the
desktop scanners are slowing things down by constantly scanning memory. On a
mail server, with the in memory footprint constantly changing, that would be
a killer. Am I on drugs?

Bob

And if you think I am, no, I won't share. ;^)
