You could also try setting your performance options for 'background services' and setting up a good pagefile on a separate drive. Just some suggestions that might help with i/o - use at your own risk of course ;-)

Close to the same time we purchased Declude Virus protection and installed a server copy of Netshield to scan the emails. Our web messaging slowed by to a crawl. Even when we brought up the Imail Administrator on the server itself and told it to show all domains on the server, we could go for a cup of coffee before it finished listing the domains and we are talking about around 175 domains. Yesterday we pulled in a consultant to be sure we had all Windows Updates on our Windows 2000 machine and all security patches. He was installing Service Pack 3 on the mailserver when our web messaging suddenly became lightning fast. Once the Service Pack was installed and the machine was rebooted, everything was slow again. We worked to be sure no services were running on the machine that were unnecessary and found a service running for Netshield McShield, one for Netshield Task Manager, and one for Alert Manager. We stopped the Netshield McShield service and everything sped up again. Since Declude is using a command line to scan incoming/outgoing emails that part still works. I emailed Declude and he said as long as the server was running only mail services that that should be ok to stop the McShield service. Anyway, EVERYTHING is so much faster... Web messaging is blazing. And we hope this will also help with some other small problems we are having with Imail and SMTP TCP timeouts.
