I think these two areas swamps for mail admins. The amount of support, bugs, troubles, mime, attachments, templates, browsers, huge mailboxes, huge increase in CPU+RAM for webmail, general like of scaleability, and then ice that cake (or put a dense fog on that swamp) with users interfacing to the whole mess, and you've added a ton of extra work+costs vs pop access. and somebody here wanted to charge users for POP service! Pay them to use POP rather than webmail. :)) Notice that the big outfits use free webmail as a "traffic builder". I'd really like to see the costs for hotmail and yahoo freemail operations vs how much revenue can be attributed to them. I bet they are all losing money, big time. and wish TH they could get out from under it.
