Well, do you know why it worked? If not, just forget about it. <G>
There is *no* good reason to tell IMail that the DNS server it should use
is your static IP. If you are running a DNS server on your IMail server
(which is OK), you should enter "127.0.0.1" as the IP address. That way,
if you change IPs (as you did), you won't have to change the DNS
settings. It also will work if you are behind a firewall or NAT.
Note that when you use a dialup line, the mailserver normally knows what
its public IP is. However, with a cable modem, it usually does not (it
only knows the internal/private IP).
In your case, you have an IP such as 192.168.100.2, but you're telling
IMail that you want to use 66.191.47.3. So IMail sends the packet to your
cable modem, which may not know what to do with the packet.
Note that 66.191.47.3 doesn't have a DNS server that is reachable on
it. So I really have to ask: Why do you think that you can enter your
static IP, and that IMail will be able to use it as a DNS server?
How about taking the IP address of the DNS server that Charter gave you,
and entering it in the IMail SMTP "DNS server" box? Just for fun, to see
if it works? Hint, hint?
