I've got notes on all the NIC cards we've used here.  Back with our first 
direct Internet connection (in 1995), all NIC cards seemed to work fine -- 
so well, in fact, that I assumed that NIC cards were just eternally 
stable.  That's why it took me so long to figure out that NIC cards were 
causing the problems we were experiencing a year or two ago.

 From my notes:

         "Linksys:  Will crash when POP3'ing mail with IMail, even with 
latest (~8/01) drivers.  May have FTP problem."

Linksys simply can't be used with a mailserver (they have a serious bug in 
their drivers that causes a BSOD).  As for the problem you are experiencing 
with transferring files, it could be because of the Linksys as well (the 
"FTP problem" referred to above is the one I described in the last post, 
which sounds similar to what you are experiencing).  Soho is another one to 
stay away from (it definitely has the "FTP problem" I described).

You might want to try searching the archives -- whenever the NIC card issue 
comes up, there are a lot of posts.
