Following along this reasoning I have an addition question to ask. Could it
be possible that a DNS has corupted or posioned records?
if your DNS hasn't been hardened against cache poisoning, sure.

  I'm asking because
AOL has reported our 64.66.96.66 as mail.jaYray.net rather than the normal
mail.jaray.net.
because that's what it is in Adelphia NS:

mx4# dig @ns1.adelphia.net. -x 64.66.96.66
; <<>> DiG 8.3 <<>> @ns1.adelphia.net. -x
; (1 server found)
;; res options: init recurs defnam dnsrch
;; got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 4
;; flags: qr aa rd; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 3, ADDITIONAL: 3
;; QUERY SECTION:
;; 66.96.66.64.in-addr.arpa, type = ANY, class = IN

;; ANSWER SECTION:
66.96.66.64.in-addr.arpa. 1D IN PTR mail.jayray.net.
