I have also been noticing a lot of the 10054 errors. Hundreds of e-mails go through fine, but there are about 5 ip addresses that keep trying to connect and get the following errors.

20021105 014834 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (043F025C) [0.0.0.0] connect 64.5.217.129 port 41180
20021105 014834 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (043F025C) send error 10054
20021105 014834 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (043F025C) send error 10054
20021105 014857 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (0440025C) [0.0.0.0] connect 64.5.217.129 port 41586
20021105 014857 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (0440025C) send error 10054
20021105 014857 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (0440025C) send error 10054

I actually can connect to port 25 of the all the addresses from my home machine, but from the server it appears to get blackholed by Sprint.

Trace route gets me a few hops out, then:
sl-gw28-ana-9-1.sprintlink.net [144.228.73.121] reports: Destination host unreachable.

I would suggest trying to trace route to these IP addresses from your server, and see if your server can actually connect to them. Seems to be what all my entries are about. The server really "can't" connect to them, but it is a routing issue at Sprint. I have notified our provider, to see what can be done.

(It also seems that most, if not all, of these IP addresses in question are possible spammers... Hmm...

Let me know what you all find out.

Todd
